André is the best friend of Oscar until they were children. Approximately one year older than her, they learned the arts of fencing and horsemanship together. Other than Oscar, he is not noble which was never a problem until Oscar became the guard of Marie Antoinette. Nevertheless, he stood by Oscar's side. André is secretly in love with Oscar but he doesn't tell her for years though he knows he will suffer for his onesided love. He is desperately in love with Oscar and even when she fells in love with Hans Axel von Fersen, he stays by her side, unable to leave her though his heart his breaking.

 After being saved from execution after an accident of Marie Antoinette André swears that  he will die for Oscar one day. So he keeps staying by her side and follows her wherever she goes. With the first insurgences of the revolution, the mysterious Black Knight appears. Being an anti-monarchist, Oscar tries to capture the Black Knight with André's help. André dresses up like the Black Knight, setting a snare for him. Unfortunately, something wents wrong and the Black Knight attacks Oscar. André tries to help her and fences against the attacker. André's left eye gets hurt in the fight and he loses sight. His right eye is slowly getting worse too until he is completely blind. André doesn't tell Oscar and also others nothing about his condition. When the revolution can't be stopped, he tells Oscar that he loves her and always has. Oscar refuses him and tells him to leave her but he stubbornly remains by her side. After being chased by insurgents, they are alone. Oscar tells André again to leave her because it's too dangerous to stay. But he says that he has always loved her and that he will always be by her side. Finally, Oscar realizes that she loves him too. They spend the night together, before they return to their regiment. Oscar and André are now fighting on the side of the people, not of the royals anymore. Sadly, they come across aggressive soldiers the next day. Before Oscar can kill them, one of them shoots and the stray bullet pierced his heart. The doctors are unable to save him and a few hours later, he dies and leaves a crying Oscar behind...
